Most heat shrink connectors use a stiff and relatively short nylon insulating jacket with internal adhesive. Nylon jackets are difficult to heat-shrink and burning your wire jacket is a common occurrence. An extra heat shrink tube on the outside usually helps but often times makes for a sloppy looking job that defies inspection.

These connectors crimp down strongly and have a nylon protective jacket covered by a soft long polyolefin shrink jacket with lots of internal waterproof adhesive.
